Unilateral Strength Training

Get Stronger with Unilateral Training!

Unilateral means one at a time, just doing the right or just doing the left or you are alternating which often uncovers right to left issues.

Unilateral training allows your body to catch up, placing more emphasis on the side that is under developed, resulting in more muscle mass in the long term.

Try a one leg or one arm exercise and see and feel the difference between each side. It is most likely that one side will feel very different to the other, you will most likely notice more balance and stability on one side. This type of training uncovers those imbalances and the body catches up so you build muscle in ways that you wouldn't have built if you'd done a similar protocol bilaterally (eg performing the same exercise using both arms or legs).

Working one side at a time, the body adapts making the body more balanced and stronger.

Often what is preventing you from lifting more weight isn't your inability to generate more force but it is often that your body won't allow you to generate more force because there is some imbalance issues....correct your balance and you will mostly be able to lift more, improve technique on both sides of the body and build more muscle mass.
